The Premier Crus and "Climats"

Premier Crus are named localities (“Climats”) within the Communal Appellations, identified for distinctive characteristics giving better wines. The name of the AOC is followed by the name of the locality classified as a Premier Cru. There are 562 such Premier Cru Climats in all of Burgundy (from Saint-Aubin Premier Cru “Murger des Dents de Chien” to Santenay Premier Cru “La Comme” and passing by Montagny Premier Cru “Montcuchot”). These wines represent the jewels in the crown of our viticulture.

“Climat”: a very precise definition
Each Climat in Burgundy is a vineyard plot, officially defined and bearing its own name for hundreds of years. It has its own history and benefits from distinctive geological and climatic conditions. A wine produced from a Climat also has its own specific taste and its place in the quality hierarchy (Regional Appellation, Village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru). > Learn more
